Great wines from Emilia Romagna
When one hears the word “Sangiovese” we naturally think of Tuscany.  But, did you know that the only D.O.C.G. rated sangiovese wines come from Emilia Romagna?  One of the leading producers of sangiovese based wines is Umberto Cesari located near Castel San Pietro Terme.  Their “Tauleto Sangiovese 2003” was recently awarded the Sangiovese Trophy 2007 at the International Wine and Spirit Competition.  We were fortunate to taste this wine during a visit in September ’07 and look forward to returning this September.

Gianmaria Cesari hosted our private visit in their lovely tasting room overlooking the Emilia Romagna countryside.  Each wine we tasted was more complex that the one before, culminating with Tauleto - the award winner.  They are also making a lovely perfume from the sangiovese grape also named Tauleto.  When you are in Emilia Romagna please try to arrange a visit to Umberto Cesari.  You will gain a new found respect for the wines of this region.  To make arrangements, email: export@umbertocesari.it

Our host, Gianmaria Cesari, travels extensively for the winery. You may catch him in the USA... if you are lucky.
The Tasting Room is almost as lovely as the wines
