Just outside of Montefalco, in Umbria, lies a pristine vineyard of Sagrantino grapes carefully managed and owned by the Tabarrini family.  The winery, under the direction of Giampaolo Tabarrini, typifies the dedication of the local Sagrantino producers who strive to bring this bold, tannic grape variety into worldwide prominence.  It is blended with Sangiovese to produce Montefalco Rosso.  As a 100% varietal, it becomes Montefalco Sagrantino.  It creates a sweet dessert wine called Montefalco Sagrantino Passito which, amazingly, is superb paired with grilled lamb.  During the third week of September a festival, Settimana Enological, is   held to celebrate the new release of these spectacular wines.
